Trim video
In this tutorial you'll learn how to trim a video using the Video Editor. Note, there is also a trim functionality in Console for basic trimming. In the Video Editor you can use such trimmed video for further editing like merging or adding a text overlay.
Create a new project
First, you need to create a new project using either the Console or from the Video Editor dashboard. See the overview article for more details.
Add clip to track
Once you are in the Video Editor project, search for a video in the upper right area using a text search or narrow down the results using category or tag filter. Below is an example of text filter "metro" in a "Life" category. This video will be used to cut a beginning sequence from it.
To start editing this video, you need to drag and drop it on the video track.
This way you create a clip on a track which can be then edited and will create the final video. Notice that the magnet icon above the tracks is enabled as it makes easy to snap the clip to the beginning of the track.
Find the right position
Use the Play/Pause button below the preview or time cursor (1) and scroll bar (2) to find the position in the video where you want to trim it. All the material before this point will be cut away.
Cut and remove
Use the cut button to split the currently selected clip into two parts.
After cutting, there will be two clips now on the track. Select the first clip by clicking on it and use the trash can icon to remove the first one:
Then drag the clip to the very beginning of the track. You can now use the Play/Pause button to verify the result is as expected.
Render video
After the video is trimmed, you'll need to render it giving it a name of your choice:
Once the video is rendered it will show up in the media list:
