You can edit existing and create new subtitles directly in the platform using the Subtitles Editor.

Create New Subtitles

To create new subtitles, choose a language and press the Create button on the subtitles page of a media on your account.

Edit Existing Subtitles

To edit existing subtitles, press the edit icon of the subtitle language you want to edit.

Publish Subtitles

To publish a subtitle so that it is visible in the player, press the eyeicon of the subtitle language you want to publish.

Use the Subtitle Editor

Settings

In the subtitle settings you can set the maximum Characters per line and Default duration for new subtitle entries. When a subtitle entry exceeds the set Characters per line a red warning triangle will appear next to the subtitle entry in the list

Recommended Characters per line is 32 with a Duration of 4 seconds.
Search ignore case - using the search and replace functionality, this will search without the search being case sensitive. 
Seach whole words only - using the search and replace functionality, this will search for separate words only.

Search and replace

Use the search and replace functionality to find and replace content in any existing subtitle blocks. You can choose to replace only content in one block by selecting it first and then press Replace, or you can select Replace all from the drop-down menu, to replace all content in all subtitles.

Below any existing subtitles, you will find the text box for adding new subtitle entries, enter the text of your subtitle entry in the box and press Add.

Below, there is a vertical list of all subtitle entries. This is where you can edit existing subtitle entries. Each entry in the list has start and end timestamps, as well as the actual text which can be edited by clicking it in the list. On the right side of each entry in this list there's a trashcan icon. Click the trashcan icon to remove the subtitle entry. On the left side of each entry there is a Play button that allows to play the video showing just this single subtitle.

Under the video preview in the Subtitle Editor you will find the timeline. On the timeline you will see blocks of text representing your subtitles at their respective position. You can change when and for how long subtitle entries should be displayed by moving and resizing the blocks with your cursor on the timeline. Just above the timeline is a zoom bar, allowing you to zoom in or out on the timeline to either get a better overview or more detailed view of the timeline.

The timeline on the left and the vertical list on the right side will stay in synchronization when selecting subtitle entries, moving around on the timeline or playing the video preview. The currently displayed subtitle entry is marked with a red bar in the list.

To undo or redo the last change in the editor, use the buttons located in the bottom left corner of the subtitle text editor. You can also use keyboard shortcuts. Undo is Ctrl+Z on Windows and Command+Z on Mac. Redo is Ctrl+Y in Windows and Command+Y on Mac.

Text Formatting

Subtitles supports bold, italic and underline through the use of HTML tags. Example: bold text italic text underlined text.

You can also add symbols using Decimal or Hexadecimal HTML reference codes in the text field. For example if you enter the character entity for a music note in your subtitles, emoji for music notes will be displayed as in the picture below. The number in the code can be replaced with any Decimal HTML reference code.

You can also use an emoji picker if your operating system supports it. In Windows 10, pressing the windows button and period button opens up an emoji picker. More details can be found on this page: https://www.w3schools.com/charsets/ref_emoji.asp

Keyboard Shortcuts

General Recommendations

Subtitles are automatically (every 5s) saved in browser's local storage in case you loose your internet connection, your computer runs out of battery, crashes or the login token expires. In such case the locally saved version of the subtitles is visible in the "Subtitles and Closed Captions" list colored in red:

You can then continue to Edit such subtitles, download or delete them. 

NOTE: Please make sure you don't have Subtitles Editor open in multiple browser tabs as this will cause overwriting the local storage backup.

The Subtitle Editor can be used with only the keyboard for a faster workflow, the examples below may be followed with or without using the keyboard shortcuts.

Examples of Workflows

When creating new subtitles from scratch:

1. Navigate to the subtitle page of your media in the Console.
2. Select language in the drop down menu.
3. Press Create and select "None" as template before pressing Create again.
4. Play the video preview (Shift + Space) and listen to the audio.
5. Pause (Shift + Space) after a phrase you want to enter as subtilte has ended.
6. Press Add (Alt + A) and enter the phrase you heard.
7. Repeat step 4 to step 6 throughout the video and press Save when done.

When translating subtitles into a different language:

1. Navigate to the subtitle page of your media in the Console.
2. Select the language you want to translate to in the drop down menu.
3. Press Create and select your existing subtitles as template before pressing Create again.
4. Press the text field of the first subtitle entry in the list on the right side.
5. Play the video preview (Shift + Space) from the start time of the subtitle entry if you want to hear the audio for context.
6. Enter translated version of subtitle text in the edit field of the subtitles.
7. Move focus to the next subtitle entry (Shift + Down).
8. Repeat step 5 to 7 throughout the video and press Save when done.

When editing existing subtitles:

1. Navigate to the subtitle page of your media in the Console.
2. Press the edit icon next to the subtitles you want to edit.
3. Play the video (Shift+ Space) and pause it (Shift + Space) when you see text you want to edit.
4. Focus the subtitle entry you want to change and edit (Alt + W) its text.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 throughout the video and press Save when done.
